AE Quick Tip – Useful Hot keys

I think it’s safe to say that anyone here has touched After Effects at least once, hell, maybe you’ve been a professional for years. There are so many hot keys for these programs it’s impossible to know them all. Here we’ve compiled a list of useful After Effects hotkeys that just might save you some time or headache in the future.

Useful After Effects Hot Keys

 

  • B” to set the in point of your composition.

  • N” to set the out point of your composition.

  • If you load in a new layer and make it 3d but it jumps far away from your camera and you can’t find it, right click on the layer and go to “Transform” > “Center in Viewer” to put it right in front of the camera.

  • Home” or “End” to jump to the beginning or end of your composition.

  • Shift” + “Home” or “End” to jump to the in or out point of your composition.

  • Hold “Command” while scrubbing to hear audio.

  • Use the Pan behind tool to move footage that’s been trimmed while not moving the in and out points.

  • Use the Pan behind tool to move a layer that has a mask on it without moving the mask around with it.

  • Command “+ “Option” + “V” paste in place.

  • Command” + “Alt” + “Shift” + left arrow or right arrow to jump to the layer in and out point.

  • `” (the button right above the “tab” key) to make whatever panel your mouse is over fullscreen.
